Geocache Description:

A medium dry box full of swag and small cache containers.

Cache Location:
The cache is located on a small white sand beach in the middle of heavy industry. You can get to the cache by entering the Forest City Cemetery in South Portland. The cemetery is located off Lincoln Street. The cemetery is only open from sunrise to sunset. Do not try to enter the cemetery after sunset. The cache is not located in the cemetery. Follow the perimeter road to the entrance to the beach (See coords). You can park next to the entrance. You will need to walk most of the beach to get to the cache. It may be difficult to get to the cache location without getting your feet wet at high tide. You can consult a tide chart at the following and plan accordingly: (visit link) .

If you get to the area at low tide there is an interesting barge that was beached many years ago. You can walk out and look around.

If you have time, please bring a trash bag and do a little clean up. It is a beautiful place but it has a lot of plastic gifts from the sea.

The coords seemed a little off so you may need to use the hints. You can count on the cache being above the high tide mark.

Please park at the caching parking location and walk the beach to the cache. If you try to park closest to the cache and go down the banking is very steep and going down over the banking contributes to erosion.

Cache Type:
The Cache is standard ammo can. The ammo can was replaced on 11/22/08 with a medium dry box as the tide was getting inside the box. What is interesting is what is in the cache and attached to the cache. There are no less than 10 other cache containers either in the cache or attached to the outside. They range in size from new nano to small dry box. Some of the cache containers have logs and pencils others you will need to supply your own. There are a couple of lock n locks and several waterproof dry cases. All of the cache cases are up for grabs except for the ammo can.

There are a couple of catches. You can only take one cache container and if you take a cache container you agree to use your best efforts to site the cache container within two weeks of taking it. If you take cache containers from the inside of the ammo can, please move some of the outside ones into the can.

It seems like a good way to get a few new caches out there in what appears to be a slow period. There are other geocaching related items in the ammo can which are up for grabs, no strings attached.

Once the cache containers are gone, I would appreciate it if someone would post a note on the site and I will go back out and fill the ammo can with regular swag.

As of 11/22/08 there are still a few dry boxes. The cache container was replaced and some additional swag was added.

The cache was replaced as of 4/18/09 with a new dry box. It has been placed higher hopefully out of the tide zone. It is currrently filled with regular swag. Law1646

Good luck and Happy caching!
