A cache in the Harmonic Woods conservation area on the University of Florida campus. The cache provides information to help you identify many of our local trees.
The Harmonic Woods conservation area is located near the center of the University of Florida campus, just north of Lake Alice. The area provides important cover and habitat for many species of animals. It is a particularly good place for woodpeckers, because of the many dead, standing trees that provide food and nest locations.
The cache you are looking for is located on a trail through the woods. You can start from either end of the trail, but it might be easiest if you approach from the south. The cache is a camouflaged metal canister, about 8 inches high. Anyone who finds it is welcome to take a copy of the "Trees of Florida" pamphlet put out by the Florida Forest Service. This cache contains a lot of paper, so it's important to keep it dry. When you leave the cache, please make sure that the ziplock bag is tightly sealed and the can is properly closed and upright. Thanks!
