Geocache Description:

Bidston Hill is 100 acres of heath land and woodland that contains historic buildings and ancient rock carvings. It is on the Wirral, Merseyside, and reaches a height of 231 feet making it one of the highest points on the Wirral.

Bidston Windmill replaced a wooden mill that was destroyed by fire in 1793, and was used to grind wheat until 1875. However it is believed that there has been a windmill on this site since 1596. After falling into disuse it was bought and restored in the 1890s.

This is a short multi-cache. The first stage is at the windmill itself where you will find a large plaque on the windmill. It starts with “This land, including the woods surrounding this windmill, containing with the adjacent piece of land known as Thermopylae about 90 acres was purchased from RG de Grey Vyner during the years 1894 to 1908 at a cost of £ABCDE. Of this sum the Corporation of Birkenhead contributed £FGHIJ and £KLMNO was raised by public subscription”

The final cache can be found at N 53 2A.NJ(O+I) W 003 0G.CD(L-F)

Whilst at the windmill, remember to take a photograph of yourself with the windmill in the background. You’ll then be able to complete the ”Bidston Windmill Challenge” set by the Lannies.
