Katherine Gaylord Traditional Cache
mom of many hats: The cache is no longer there; I have a feeling the mulch man took it. Even though it is perfectly legal for people to visit the graveyard, I don't think it is worth the hassle fighting this guy. Glad I could spread the story of Katherine Gaylord.

Katherine Cole Gaylord was born in Burlington in 1745. Her husband, Aaron Gaylord, served in the Colonial Troops and probably was at the Battle of Bunker Hill. After his return home the family set out for what was at that time the far western territory: Wyoming, PA. On July 3, 1778 a large number of Indians & British troops overtook the settlers in the fort. Aaron was killed, but Katherine and her three young children escaped into night. The children took turns riding the family's horse with Katherine walking beside. For weeks they braved starvation and peril but arrived safely back at her father's house in Burlington. Katherine lived to the amazing age of 95, passing from this life in 1840.
A marker was placed in the cemetery in 1895 by the Katherine Gaylord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
This cache is near the Milford Street Cemetery, her final resting place. The cemetery sits back from Rte. 69 (Milford St.) just .1 mile south of Rte. 4.
