This cache is located down a new trail that is not quite yet finished. So be prepared for a rustic walk along a rainforest trail in the making.
The trailbed is current rough rocks (fall, 2008) and will eventually be covered with more walkable material. That said the trail is NOT currently wheelchair friendly but will be more so in the future. Kids will love this trail but parents watch out. The trail is very close to a lake and at spots even is over the lake. Small kids could get into trouble there.
To start the trail to the cache park at N58 22.862, W134 37.885, the trailhead. From there you have a nice, easy walk to the cache area. The GPSr signal at the cache is pretty bad which is why the cache has the difficulty rating so high. I was getting accuracy to within 40 feet while placing it but at times that would jump to over 100ft. As you walk the trail I would take time to stop at the two viewpoints built along the trail. I have never seen any like this before. They were nicely done and ideal for Juneau’s rainy weather. These spots are also good for taking some pictures from a different perspective of the area.
I placed this cache out on a day that was brisk and dry. Unusual for Juneau this year. I was amazed to see a couple of guys out on the lake water skiing. My gosh, it was in the 30’s.
