Geocache Description:

Refer to Related Web Page for full background. Site of 12 Group
Fighter Command during WWII.

Usual cache goodies to swap.

FTF Certificate went to Eco Trooper.

From here the air defence of Norfolk, Lincolnshire, The Midlands
and North Wales was co-ordinated. The personnel here tracked enemy
bombers and co-ordinated fighter intercepts. For this reason it was
one of the most secret locations of the war. Underground the site
is vast and as a whole the complex extends due north on the eastern
side of the road for 1/4 mile as far as the Haulage Yard, with the
nearby garage and workshops, and Met Office Weather Centre all
originally being part of the HQ site. On placing the box noticed
Agents signs indicating the site may have been sold. Having been
abandoned for years, there may be increased activity in the area
shortly and the life of the cache may be limited. Area popular with
dog-walkers for years. Take care re muggles on path at the top of
the embankment.
