Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Halpatiokee Regional Park in central Martin County just east of I-95. This large family and sportsman’s recreation area is on land once managed by the South Florida Water Management District. Park amenities include multiple baseball and football/soccer fields, batting cages, tennis courts, covered skating rink, hiking trails, biking trails, and off-road mountain biking trails, a primitive campground, a child’s playground, and picnic tables and pavilions. The south fork of the St. Lucie river partially boarders the eastern edge of the park and a canoe/kayak outfitter is on the edge of the park, as well a public boat ramp on Lost River off Cove Road just N.E. of the park. There are lots of animals, birds and fish to see on the hundreds of acres of natural land comprising the south end of the park. You may spot a gopher tortoise, wild pig, armadillo, or perhaps an alligator along the river or near the lakes.

You are looking for a plastic bottle container off a remote section of one of the narrow, off-road biking trails near a canal. Extensive biking trails have been constructed by the Airborne Mountain Biking Club of the Treasure Coast. Signage is being added to the trails all the time but as of this writing there were not many trail markers. If you bike to the cache, take the bypass routes when you see them unless you are a very experienced mountain biker. You can hike to the cache when the bikers are not out in force. You can get to the cache from three different trails, but picking the right ones makes it a challenge, hence the difficulty of 2.5. Wear protective shoes that may get wet, a helmet if biking, and take plenty of water. When you get to the cache, take a few minutes to enjoy the view.

Caution. This cache is off the main biking trail. With many meandering, crisscrossing trails and old roads, it is easy to get lost. Make sure your GPS is logging your route in case you need to backtrack to find your way out.
