This cache is placed at the north western end of Anagiri Bay on the beautiful Island of Spetses. To access the cache you have to scramble over some rocks so is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. We would not advise this for families with small children as it is close to a drop into the sea.
Anagiri Bay is a beautiful bay with a shingle beach on the west side of Spetses Island. From Spetses Town you can get here by car, bike or scooter all year, or in summer by bus or caique. There is a hotel here, a taverna on the beach and of course, the obligatory church.
Near to the cache site is a stunning and large natural cave. The cave is known as Bekiris Cave and during the War of Independence from the Ottomans in the 19th Century many of the revolutionary leaders used the cave as a hideout. You cannot see the entrance to the cave from sea or land unless you know where to look. The entrance is very small but today is marked on the rock above with a big red arrow so you cannot miss it! The coordinates for the cave entrance are: N37 15.325 E023 06.724 You simply cannot come to Anagiri Bay and do this cache without going into the amazing cave! You can also swim in or out of the cave, though we would advise wearing shoes as litter gets washed into the cave and there may be sea urchins on the rocks.
Between the cache and there there is also a fabulous rock jump for keen swimmers and adrenaline junkies!
The cache itself is a small tupperware container with logbook, pencil and some small tradable items. Please put it back carefully when you found it to ensure it cannot be seen from any angle!
