Geocache Description:

****Congratulations to LargeFry for the Frigid FTF ****Don't forget coords for the Heron Pond cache!!!In Essex, from West Avenue turn up to Grandview Terrace, follow until you see the ELT sign on your left by what appears to be a private drive. Go down the drive; there is parking for 2-3 vehicles at the sign (coordinates provided). Open dawn to dusk with very steep terrain; views of pond; rock feature on side of hill. About ½ mile round trip. Container is a small lock & lock.

Welcome to my ELT geocache series. I have gone on several preserve hikes in the past sponsored by the Essex Land Trust and would like to share these wonderful “pocket parks” with my fellow geocachers. The ELT preserve trails are all generally easy to follow with colored markers on the trees. There are a total of five caches in this series, each in its own preserve: James Glen, Tiley Pratt Pond, Windswept Ridge, Fern Ledge, and Heron Pond. To obtain the coordinates for the Heron Pond cache, you have to find the four other caches in this series; partial coordinates for Heron Pond are on the inside cover of each logbook. You may do the preserve caches in any order but, of course, Heron Pond must be done last. The whole series could probably be completed in 4-5 hours, if you’re so inclined. Have fun! Stash: Due to the government’s refusal to offer me a bailout, I no longer give out gift cards for FTF. However, here’s a list of goodies you can choose from that were stocked among all the caches: Starting Your Garden DVD, 3 Outlet Swivel Wall Tap, AA Batteries, Book Light, Bungee Cords, Pullback Racing Cars, Cork Screw/Bottle Opener, Doggy Tennis Balls, Electrical Tape, Glue Sticks, Santa Claus, Color Pencils, Nerf Football, Backpack Caribiners, Super Glue, Six Color Crayon Wheel, Glow Sticks, Masking Tape, Clip-on Flashlight, Cable Ties. Trail Notes- The trail from the parking area is not well marked, but the terrain is fairly open so just follow your GPSr. There is a good trail running parallel to the pond that brings you back up to the road. Re-checked coordinates on two visits.
