Geocache Description:

Matchedash Bay - Thiffault Nature Trail

A minute or two from Highway 400 on the way north; a great place to enjoy nature... and exchange trackables!

Geocaching has often taken me to a roads (or trails) less traveled.
This cache has been placed to bring people to a little known place, that's easy to get to.. and well worth the trip.

"Important Bird Areas" are recognised around the world as the most important sites for protecting bird diversity.
Matchedash Bay is one over 1200 IBAs within Canada.
Over 226 species of birds have been recorded within the Matchedash Bay IBA, of which 131 breed.

This wetland was previously a mass of cattails and sedge; after a rehabilitation project in 1992, the area was restored to a healthy and diverse environment.
There is an observation tower that offers a splendid view of the wetlands; bring your camera, your binoculars... and your patience.

You will likely encounter one of a variety of animals including terns, heron, bittern, ducks, turtles, deer and... trumpeter swans.
The view and experience are enjoyable year round; evenings on the observation tower can are accompanied with the calls and noises of nature.

The cache container is an ammo can, clearly marked to indicate that it is a geocache/letterbox, wedged between the rocks.

The cache has natural cover, and although in a relatively remote location, care should be taken to ensure it is not immediately visible.

The ammo can contains a letterboxing stamp and this must remain with the cache! It is not a trading item!

If you have your own stamp, please feel free to leave your mark in the log book.

The cache has been placed in an easy to get to, yet shielded location - please be sure to tread lightly and cover right-ly!

Of course, please upload your photos with your logs; particularly from the observation point.

This cache has been placed by a Central Ontario Geocacher!
