Geocache Description:

A place for travel bugs to land and rest before continuing their journey
The Southern hospitality mat is extended. Let your travel bug bide a bit and refresh it-self. There is nectar in the woods, a McDonalds nearby, and a café on site. What more could you want?

The city of Talladega is 10 miles south of this location. It is well known for its southern charm and hospitality. Historic homes dating back to the civil war era and the early 20th century are found along its streets.

One of the major institutions in Talladega is the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, the world's most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and employment system serv-ing children and adults who are deaf, blind and multidisabled. With five campuses and nine regional centers throughout the state, AIDB has been investing in the lives of thou-sands of infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors who are challenged by hearing and vision. It is located on five different campuses, including the Alabama School for the Deaf, the Alabama School for the Blind, the Helen Keller School of Alabama (for chil-dren with multiple handicaps), the E H Gentry School (for disabled adults) and the Ala-bama Industries for the Blind. In 2008 the school celebrated its 150th anniversary.

Talladega is also the home of Talladega College, a private, liberal arts institution that holds the distinction of being Alabama’s oldest historically black college.
Talladega’s main campus includes 39 buildings on 50 acres, surrounded by the city and gently rolling woodlands. The beautiful oak-lined campus boasts several historic land-marks: Swayne Hall (1852), the original school house has been used for classrooms, but is now undergoing historic renovations; the President’s House (1881); DeForest Chapel (1903), that houses the famous 17 stained-glass windows by David C. Driskell; and Sav-ery Library (1939), home of the Amistad Murals by famed artist Hale Woodruff.

Of course the best-known attraction in Talladega is the Talladega Superspeedway, not too far south of this location. Reportedly it is one of the fastest NASCAR racetracks in the nation, it will be celebrating 40 years of racing in 2009. Don’t bother trying to get to this cache during race weekends. You can’t get to it. But at other times it is well worth the effort to drive a mile or so south and turn left. On the campus of the speedway is also the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum. Drop by and see all the exhibits there. Just beyond the superspeedway is the dirt track.

Stop by, have a Coke, enjoy yourself, and just maybe take the time to see the sights. This is a very high muggle location. Exercise great caution!
