Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Vermont 251 Plus 4 Geocaching Club, an attempt to bring caches to each and every town, city and gore in the state of Vermont!

The town was granted to 48 men, five of whom were named Whiting (both the names and the town spelled Whiteing in the grant).
At least two of the Whitings had served with Rogers' Rangerss during the last of the French and Indian wars, as had several of the other grantees. King George III was in favor of land grants to veterans, so Benning Wentworth was on rather more firm ground in granting this town than he was with many others.
The first proprietors' meeting was not held until nine years after the town was granted, and none of the Whitings ever took up land under their grant. The first settlers had only been in the town a few years when the Revolution began, and during the war the town was abandoned, as were many other towns in what became Vermont.

About the cache As we were driving thru Whiting we noticed that it was farm country… Maybe it was the route we took, but we saw lots of farm land and not much else??? CAL and I both grew up on farms in mountainous central VT, where 30 acres is considered a big field… Out here some of the fields are 300 acres. So we place this cache near one of the big fields.
Cache is in a PB Jar and should be findable year round. We accessed it from a little farm road, and parked near a gate. As I scouted the hiding place I crossed over the rotted remains of an old split rail fence. Definately farm country.

I had a little trouble getting a good reading from the GPS, so if anyone gets a better reading please let me know.
