Geocache Description:

A Cache placed near the site of an historic homestead that never quite prospered.
The Cache was placed some time ago.
We could only begin to imagine how hard it was to make a living in a place like this.

In October 07, the government announced it had purchased the St James station, making it freely available for public access. St James is an iconic part of the North Canterbury High Country.
This Cache is at the site of the old lake Guyon homestead.
There is a flash new MTB track reaches here now, or you could tramp in, as I have always done, over Fowlers Pass or, as I intend to do one day, from the St James walkway.
Warnings.
This is alpine high country, and rather exposed, which ever way you get there. Blizzard conditions can occur at any time of the year. Do not even begin to plan a trip there till you have looked at this link and planned your trip accordingly. (visit link)

Terrain now modified to 4 to reflect that D.O.C have marked the track over Fowlers Pass with Snow Poles. This dosent make the track any easier, but it does stop you getting lost on the way out.

The cach is placed in such a manner that you will not need to disturb anything to get it out.
Please do not disturb any piles of rocks in the vicinity of the site, or any historic material you may find there.
