Geocache Description:

REMEMBER THE RULES: IF YOU TAKE SOMETHING. LEAVE SOMETHING,
IMPORTANT: This Cache is NOT accessible from the M1 Motorway. If this should form part of your route, then leave at Junction 23 and head west towards "Shepshed"

Once in Shepshed, you may be able to find the cache off of one of the roads within the housing estate, but would suggest that you park near to N52 46.136, W001 16.870.
If you do decide to park on the gravel road at this location, please do not block the road as the occasional vehicle still needs access to the estate.
I recommend that you do not drive part of the way down the track to the cache , as there is a gate which may get locked behind you ! (Although still accessible on foot or via bikes etc even if locked) and there is no real parking as you come off of the gravel part of the route.

Why "Down Coachie" ? - The main track leading down to this is called "Coach Road".
Coach road used to join "Grange Farm" (now converted into a guest house, but still visible) on "Forest Street" in Shepshed with the Garendon estate, owned by Squire De Lisle.
As a teenager, we used to "cart corn" on tractors between the fields and the farm and people locally refer to the lane as "Down coachie".
Sadly the farm closed, and much of the top part of this gravel road has either been built on, or reduced to a footpath in width. The top end used to emerge where the Texaco petrol station now stands. (The eagle eyed may still spot the "Coach road" sign on the part of the lane still visible behind the petrol station )

There is no need to pass under the Motorway bridge. If you choose to take a peek, that's up to you. Note that there is a "Private" sign on the other side after a few hundred yards.

There are a few other caches along the northern perimeter of the estate, but without local knowledge of permissible footpaths, I would suggest you do not attempt to reach them from this side.

Dogs: dogs are ok on this one, but suggest you keep them on a lead.
There is a dog waste bin (painted red) near to the suggested parking location - N52 46.136, W001 16.870 in the opposite direction to the trail, where the trail has now become a footpath.
Children - shortly before reaching the motorway bridge, there is a very shallow brook, which can be quite muddy.
Pushchairs: A combination of Gravel track, grass track, dirt footpaths. You might get a folding type buggy along, the grass part, depending on season.
Grass part can be wet under foot if it has rained recently, although not usually enough to require wellies.
The last 20 feet or so are along the edge of a field.

Enjoy.

Planning permission for 3000 houses is currently being sort on the Loughborough side of the estate. (East side of the motorway)
