Flat, sandy hike into Sonoita Creek.
The trailhead is just beyond the new Coatamundi Middle school on Avenida Coatamundi in Rio Rico.
This area is called the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area. It is adjacent to and managed by the Patagonia Lake State Park. Hiking is limited to 30 persons per day, so you should call ahead for a permit--(520) 287-2791.
You can continue on this trail all the way to Patagonia lake, about 8 miles- with some grand caches upon the way. This one is not too far in. The terrain is level and sandy, and the trail is one of the most beautiful we have seen.
We put this cache maybe a mile from the parking in hopes that someone would grab it on their way down the creek to Pink Rock at White Rock, and, in turn, put out another further along the way. We really need more caches out in these lovely places. Thanks.
