Rt 66 - Thanksgiving Reversal of Fortune Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

train1904: I drove by this one after MikeLong's report that this one was missing. As he said this area had been mowed and cleaned up and in the process the cache was apparently taken/thrown away. This cache served its intended Thanksgiving function, actually lasting longer than I expected it to with all of the construction. So I'll archive it now.

Geocache Description:

Lots of folks travel over Thanksgiving, so I thought it would be nice to have an easy park, grab and stretch for folks running up and down the interstate to and from Grandma's house. This is a regular size cache that is magnetic. In fact, it may be the largest magnetic cache you have seen. The cache IS at the coordinates listed. If you enjoy large, easy caches, this one is for you.

The cache has a puzzle component although most of you will nab it without solving the puzzle, but it will provide something to discuss with the kids as you approach the location. This cache is along the lines of ScottyLove's Reversal of Fortunes series meaning that you will be able to drive right up to it. It is a 1 for both difficulty and terrain.

Here is the puzzle part - At the cache site, you will see 3 diamonds. Looking at the diamonds from the road side, left to right - answer this question and the cache will be closest to the diamond with the correct answer:

What is a baby turkey called?
Left Diamond = a chick
Middle Diamond = a poult
Right Diamond = a gosling

This cache is located right near an exit from I-44. So take the Chestnut Expressway exit (old Route 66) and head east just a short distance. You will want to pull onto the outer road near a stop light. There is a lot of construction in the area but the hiding spot will be pretty obvious. Due to construction of roads leading to Springfield's new airport, I don't expect this cache to make it to next Thanksgiving. But for this year, it ought to be a quick diversion for your family. There are small trade items for the kids to browse through. FTF will get a golden bison tube. DRIVE CAREFUL AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
