Secret Wish Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

NCreviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Nice hour-long walk up the hill through the Botanical Gardens, then down a little known secret trail to Elephant Rock. Placed sensitively with review by UNC Botanical Gardens.

The Botanical Gardens loop is a nice strenuous up-hill climb along a shaded woodland trail. Most people stick to the main trails, but there's a super-secret double-ninja back-way trail to Morgan Creek, where you will find Elephant Rock. Nearby, at the listed coordinates for this cache, is an old outdoor cooking area where the Hunt family use to entertain. Around the 1900's, this area was an old mine and mill for slate. Elephant Rock was one end of a dam which created a lake to power the mill. On a rock near the front of the old fireplace, you will find six digits written in black marker in the form:

ABC DEF

The coordinates of the cache is N 35° 53.ABC' W 079° 01.DEF'. The original hiding spot was accidentally placed in a very sensitive environment - an ancient and very rare rhododendron covered bluff that has existed there since the last Ice Age. Please do not climb around this bluff. The start of the secret trail can be found at N 35° 53.757' W 079° 01.861'. The cache is a camouflaged coffee can. Note that we list the terrain as 3.5 difficulty. Getting to the cache after you find the ruins is a bit challenging, though my six-year-old managed it. Also, be sensitive about the area near the cache. In particular, it is not in the old rock wall that use to be part of the mill, but nearby. There is no need to disturb the ruins.

We've written a nice thought to start the log book. If you like, please leave one of your favorite quotes, or make up something nice. Take a whole page if you like, as we often visit this area, and can replace the log any time.
