Nice fishing spot for kids, with fishing gear provided! Placed sensitively with review by UNC Botanical Gardens.
Morgan Creek is full of little fishies that kids love to catch, like bluegill and catfish. This ammo-box has five fishing lines attached to wooden handles. Bring your own bait – we like to use bread. There's also traditional items in this cache, so fishing is optional.
We like to reach this area by walking through the Botanical Gardens. At the top of the long loop there you will find the start of a secret trail that goes down to Morgan Creek. The secret trail starts at N 35° 53.757' W 079° 01.861'. It's to the left of the trail marked as “Kings Mill Road”, and has nothing but a sign warning you that you are leaving the Botanical Gardens.
This is a long hike, up a long hill, and then all the way down to Morgan Creek. Plan to spend about an hour and a half of fairly strenuous hiking, not counting fishing time. The cache is near a nice spot for a picnic. Don't forget to bring water and snacks.
