Geocache Description:

This traditional cache takes you through the less traveled and quieter parts of the Franny Reese State Park in Highland, New York. The park is managed by Scenic Hudson. Terrain is fairly flat with some gentle inclines and downhills. It is a fairly long walk from the parking area to the cache, so please be aware.

Cache is a regular sized lock and lock container that was painted with brown camo paint. It is large enough that it will hold many things, including travel bugs, geocoins, and trade items. It contains a log book, a pen, two full sized ziploc bags, and lots of swag.
Please be careful with your footing near GZ as there is a steep drop nearby to the Hudson River below. Please place all contents of cache back into the ziplocs, lock all of the locks on the container, and place the cache back EXACTLY as you found it.

Parking coordinates for this cache are added as a waypoint below. You can also park at the Johnson Iorio Memorial Park which is at the western end of the Mid Hudson Bridge. To get to this parking area just take Haviland Road from 9w (Northbound-first right off ramp) all the way to the end. It would be a longer hike to the cache site from this parking area however.

Please check out my other cache that I have at Franny Reese Park. It is a Multi-Stage called A WALK THROUGH TIME. Also, GKman's cache called THE OLD ESTATE is located in the center of the park and takes you through many historic ruins.

I have added a waypoint to help on the trails to this cache. You might not need it but it will be there if you do.

If you decide to journey through the preserve you might pass some very old ruins and foundations. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU DO NOT GO INSIDE, TOUCH, OR GO NEAR ANY HISTORIC STRUCTURE. Also, do not take anything and leave the area exactly as you found it.

From the Scenic Hudson Website:
This "park-in-progess" features 250 acres of impressive ridgeline just south of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge.
The rugged landscape offers views of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and Hudson River as well as points along the river's east shore, such as the historic Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge and the Samuel F.B. Morse Historic Site, where Franny served as a board member. The land boasts a broad array of tree species and features carriage trails and stone walls that crisscross the acreage.
Franny was passionate about preserving every bit of riverfront land for the public. She cared dearly about the west shore, and this site is one of the area's most prominent parcels - its steep bluffs seen by thousands crossing the Mid-Hudson Bridge every day. The wooded ridgeline defines the view from Locust Grove and the Poughkeepsie shoreline. From the property, one can see south to the Hudson Highlands and north past the railroad bridge.
Other than this preserve, there is no significant public access to land along the river's west shore until the Newburgh waterfront - a full 20 miles away.
A trail leads to the property from the Town of Lloyd's Johnson-Iorio Park, located immediately north of the bridge's Ulster County side. The path takes visitors under the bridge and connects them to a carriage trail that accesses the site.
Scenic Hudson purchased the property in 2003 to protect it from development and preserve it as a public resource. New York State assumed ownership in 2006. The Franny Reese State Park will be managed for public use by Scenic Hudson and the Palisades Interstate Park Commission on behalf of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The purchase was made possible by funding from the Lila Acheson and DeWitt Wallace Hudson Valley Land Preservation Endowment.
