Volcans de la Garrotxa: #2 Montsacopa Traditional Cache

El Montsacopa és un dels volcans més representatius del Parc Natural. Visitant-lo podem observar, d'una banda, la morfologia dels volcans estrombolians i de l'altra, les relacions existents entre els sistemes naturals i el creixement urbà. L'accés a Sant Francesc, nom local d'aquest volcà, és una passejada que acostumen a fer els olotins.

Alineat entre els volcans de la Garrinada i de Montolivet, el Montsacopa es troba situat al pla d'Olot, des d'on s'aixeca 94m, damunt d'una base irregular de 600m x 800m. Durant la seva erupció, a més de la projecció de materials piroclàstics (cendres, gredes, bombes i escòries) va emetre una petita colada de lava que es va escolar en direcció nord-est fins on actualment hi ha la riera de Ridaura.

The Montsacopa is one of the most representative volcanoes of the Nature Reserve. Visiting it we can observe, on the one hand, the morphology of the Strombolian volcanoes and of the other one, the existing relationships among the natural systems and the urban growth. The access to Sant Francesc, local name of this volcano, is a walk that the inhabitants of Olot usually make.

Lined upamong the volcanoes of the Garrinada and of Montolivet, the Montsacopa is placed in the plan of Olot, from where 94 m is raised, on an irregular basis of 600 m x 800 m. During its eruption, besides the projection of piroclàstics materials (ashes, clays, bombs and cinders) it issued a small outflow of lava that is gone in northeast direction as far as where at present there is the stream of Ridaura.
