The thirteen lined ground squirrel generally lives on the short
grass prairie, and generally has more or less than 13 stripes. They
can be temperamental and so keep to themselves. They dig burrows
individually and carry the excess dirt away in their mouth so that
there will be no mound of dirt to give away their secret entrance
to their burrow. At night they will tap dance on the dirt or grass
of their entrance to further hide its whereabouts.. its also
entertaining for the many children that they have. They eat so much
over the summer that by fall they are fat, irritable and ready for
bed. I’m grateful they sleep for 7 months of the year!
This cache is located next to some grounds keeping storage in
their honor..(and so I don’t make them made at me!)
