Geocache Description:

Bandeira Portugal

Bandeira Inglesa

The construction of the Tower of S. Sebastian, now Museum-Library Condes de Castro Guimarães, date of the early twentieth century and was built by the aristocrat George O'Neil. Remarkable work of romantic architecture, the Tower of S. Sebastian fascinated by the mixture of styles and an environment that makes mysticism imagine stories of other times ...

In 1910, the palace was sold to the Counts of Castro Guimarães that after making some changes, it came to inhabit much of the year. The taste of the couple reflected in the purchase of furniture and works of art representative of different eras, as well as his interest in culture was felt with the purchase of two of the most significant achievements of the current museum, a neo-organ Gothic, built in order for the count and valuable Crónica de D. Afonso Henriques in Duarte Galvão.

Counts received the short time of this magnificent palace. When he died, in 1927 the Count left in wills, the house and property to the city of Cascais, for which they were constituted a House-Museum and Public Garden.

The Museum-Library Condes de Castro Guimarães was officially inaugurated on 12 July 1931, and was for years the only one in the municipality of Cascais.
