Geocache Description:

Nice and easy magnetic micro cache and dash in the centre of Kirkcaldy.

I have always admired this building.

Baillie Robert Philp, a local linen manufacturer, died in 1828 leaving all his estate for the education, books and clothing of poor children in the area. In 1850 this Philp School was opened with another three being funded in Kinghorn, Linktown and Pathhead. The Philp schools all closed by 1891 due to the increase in local authority schools. The students who attended the Philp schools were known as “Philpers” and they used to march to Robert Philp’s grave on the anniversary of his birth every year as a tribute.

This building is presently a nightclub so best avoided in and around the weekend and in the hours of darkness!

To the south west of the cache is Volunteers’ Green which is all that is left of almost 9 acres of ground presented to Kirkcaldy by Charles I in 1644.
