Who Was Don Pedro Fages?

Come and find out what Department Of Natural Resources, State of California Registration # 283 has to say about who he was. This is a California Historical Marker Dedicated October 9, 1938. Located on Lebec Road, a frontage road to Interstate 5, with easy off and easy on from the freeway. Several other local caches in the area and history just down the road at Fort Tejon. You do not need to cross the nearby barbed wire fence to get this cache.

California State Parks - NO. 283 TOP OF GRAPEVINE PASS, WHERE DON PEDRO FAGES PASSED IN 1772 - In 1772, Don Pedro Fages passed this site, traveling from San Diego to San Luis Obispo via Cajón Pass, Mojave Desert, Hughes Lake, Antelope Valley, Tejón Pass, Cañada de los Uvas (Grapevine Canyon), and Buena Vista Lake. He left the first written record of exploration in the south San Joaquin Valley.
Location: On Lebec Rd, 0.6 mi N of Lebec

Don Pedro Fages was a solder, explorer, and the second Spanish military Governor of New California from 1770 to 1774, and Governor of the Californias from 1782 to 1791.
