Geocache Description:

A nice leisurely stroll around the moat of Fort Brockhurst.

This cache has been designed with children in mind and hence only toys are to be found in it. It shouldn't be too hard to find and takes in some mounds and hillocks to clamber up and down. So go on, give your expensive GPS to your child and let them lead you to finding this one. Grown up's without children, please visit our cache and sign the book and maybe leave a TB or Geocoin. We've found that kids love tracking them and see where they have been around the country/world.
The suggested parking for this is at N50 48.824 W001 09.261. Should be plenty of space to park but the entrance is only wide enough for cars.
Fort Brockhurst is one of a series of forts that were built to encircle the city of Portsmouth to stop an invasion by Napoleon's forces. As Napoleon never did invade they became known as Palmerstons Follies after Lord Palmerston who ordered their construction. The fort is now owned by English Heritage and only opens at certain times. But the woodland outside the fort is free to ramble and the moat is used by a local fishing club. From the car park it is recommended that you take a clockwise circuit around the moat, to the cache location. Once the cache has been located you can either retrace your steps back, or continue in a circular route around the moat back to the car park. If you continue on around the moat take note that it does part of the way skirt an industrial estate for a short distance. Once they have found the toys in the cache take them onto the draw bridge with some bread to feed the ducks and swans. See how big the fish that come up for the bread are!
The cache is a regular size sandwich box.
