While hiking out in the wilds of Marin’s Kent Lake headed for “the
most remote point in Marin”, Erickson and I explored and saw many
things. We saw great rock formations for future consideration,
crossed a few creeks, saw huge flocks of doves swooping through the
forest below us and enjoyed the wonderful views of Kent Lake that
few have seen. We even got to see something very rare here in Marin
- a pair of Bald Eagles flying overhead.
One of the most interesting things we found though was the ruins of
a small old fishing camp where you could still make out a sign that
was posted that read “Gone Fishin'!" I placed the cache just under
the ruins of the old camp so please be gentle when getting the
cache. What’s amazing is that there is clear evidence that the camp
survived a major fire in the area as it seems to have been built
right below a huge burned out redwood tree that is nothing but a 12
foot arch now.
We approached from the south side of the creek just off of a spur
fireroad that headed down to the lake. It was the easiest because
the water was running low at the time. You might have to approach
from the north side if the water is too high when you get
there.
