About the film:
In Alfred Hitchcock’s moody masterpiece, VERTIGO, released in
1958, John "Scottie" Ferguson (played brilliantly by Jimmy Stewart)
is a retired San Francisco police detective who suffers from
acrophobia ( a fear of heights). His condition is the result of a
police chase gone awry when he powerlessly watches a colleague fall
to his death. Scottie retires from the force, a tortured and broken
man, and plays at being a private investigator. A wealthy
shipbuilder who is an acquaintance from his college days approaches
Scottie and asks him to follow his beautiful wife, Madeleine. He
fears she is going insane, maybe even contemplating suicide,
because she believes she is possessed by a dead ancestor. Scottie
is skeptical, but agrees. Through a series of scenes, we watch
Scottie come to know his subject and maybe even fall for her. Then,
as fate would have it, Scottie is put in the position of helplessly
watching Madeleine fall to her death in an apparent suicide. Once
again he has failed to help. Time passes and Scottie, having been
hospitalized in an institute, is finally released. He hopes he has
gotten past the guilt of not being able to save Madeleine’s life
because of his fear of heights, but he keeps seeing women who
remind him of Madeleine everywhere he goes. His guilt and distress
slowly becomes obsession when he meets a girl who is the spitting
image of the dead Madeleine. Is he going crazy or is there
something more devious at play here? Madeleine and the girl are
both played by the beautiful Kim Novak.

location is suggestive of the title (high) and the view from the
cache is of a place that figures prominately in the film.
