Geocache Description:

Almost a dash n' grab ammo container hidden near a cemetery.

When I moved back to Ontario in this area, my father was really pleased because he said it was moving back close to the family homestead. One day, we went for a ride so he could show me what he meant. One of our stops was at this location where many a family gathering took place.

The Baldwin Free Methodist Church no longer occupies this land, but the cemetery remains. The Church has been moved to the Georgina Pioneer Village. Please stop by this great little place. We did and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. Both pictures in this description were taken at the Village.

My father told me this was not the first move for the Church building, though. According the information at the Pioneer Village, it was built around 1889, however, circa 1924, the Church was moved to the location in Baldwin. He's not sure exactly where it came from originally, but he knew for sure that my grandfather's team of horses was involved in its move.

As I wandered the cemetery in preparation for the cache hide, I was amazed at the lifespans of the residents in this area. It seems that many of them lived well into their 80's and 90's. That it unusual for a cemetery of this age. Others typically had average lifespans of 40 or 50 years. Baldwin, was apparently either an easy place to live or was filled with hardy stock.

The cache container is relatively easy to find and you don't even have to go into the cemetery itself. But please, take a moment to wander around and see some of the interesting history, including the resting place of a WWII sapper. Original contents: Assorted computer cables, kids toys, earrings handmade by Little Miss Filk and a $5 McD's card for the FTF.
