This cemetery is of particular interest to me because the grave of
Franky Kelly, my
great - great - great - great - grandmother is there. Franky, when
a young widow, was a pioneer in Kentucky, bringing her family from
Virginia around the turn of the 19th century. One family legend has
it that one of her sons, William "Billy" Smith, was too sick to
make the trip with the family and was left for a time with a family
named Branham. Thereafter, Billy added Branham to his name and
became the progenitor of the widespread B. Smith or Branham Smith
family.
Although his grave is not marked as such, John Kelly, Franky's
second husband whose grave is beside hers, was a veteran of the
Revolutionary War. The graves of many more area pioneers and
veterans of various wars can be found throughout the cemetery.
I have provided coordinates in case you want to drop by and visit
Grandma Franky but it isn't necessary to go into the cemetery
proper to find the cache. Please note that this cemetery is still
"active" and properly respect any services which may be underway by
postponing your visit for another time. Night hunts are not
encouraged.
