Geocache Description:

Hi! My name is JOE!

Please let me know if no image is shown please send me a message if there is no image Please let me know if no image is shown

I am one part in a series placed by members of The Greater Charlotte Geocachers Club.
You are about to embark on a journey simply known by my name, JOE,
that may take you places you've never been!

Synopsis of "JOE" Caches
  • The cache name contains the following elements using as an example:
JOE 20 NB I-85 "GCGC Cache"
    • JOE = "Just  Off  Exit"
    • 20 = Exit number
    • NB = North-Bound. This could be SB, EB, WB (South, East or West Bound),
IL or OL (Inner Loop or Outer Loop) for caches along I485 or other major "Loops" around cities.
    • I-85 = Interstate number
    • "GCGC Cache" = the cache name for the specific cache placed (this does not have to include GCGC)
    • The cache would then read as Just Off Exit 20 North Bound I-85 "GCGC Cache"
  • The hint must invariably give away the cache location.
  • The container can be any size, micro to regular, but no puzzles or multi's.
  • The cache cannot be hidden farther than two-tenths (0.2 driving distance) of a mile from the exit ramp in any direction.
  • There can only be 2 JOE caches at each exit; one for each direction of travel.
  • A JOE cache can be placed by any member of the GCGC who:
    • informs the GCGC of the cache so that the cache can be placed on a list of "JOE" caches.
    • agrees to place all information as seen on this page with exception to each cache's specific info and hint
    • agrees to maintain the cache to keep it active.
  • JOE caches do not have to be PMO (Premium Member Only) but the cache owner reserves the right to do so

How "JOE" got started

The JOE cache series was started by altosaxplayer, a member of the Tri-Cities Geocachers, as an Interstate 81 equivalent to the "Loop to Loop" cache series started in Nashville TN by cgeek. The name JOE means "Just Off Exit" and the caches are placed no more than two tenths of a mile from the exit. JOE caches are an easy way to pick up more cache finds while traveling, therefore the hint is a dead give away to the location.

Altosaxplayer (Tri-Cities Geocachers) ~ "After having found several of the LTL or "Loop to Loop" caches which are only for I-40, I thought that it would be a good idea for the people along the I-81 to have something like the "Loop to Loop" caches. I started thinking of names; any name that would be a cool, catchy name like that of the LTL caches. I finally decided on JOE or "Just Off Exit". After voicing the idea to several fellow cachers, it was widely accepted and support for the project was volunteered. It is all history from there."
