Mountain biking is king at this lake as each year hundreds of
mountain bikers descend here to take part in the annual Tour de
Lake mountain bike race. Some mountain bikers even choose to ride
here at night using headlamps. It is said by some bikers that
mysterious lights appear in the woods the mesmerize weak minds and
lead them to strange places.
This is not your ordinary cache. Park at the above coordinates
after dark and use a bright flashlight. You'll see the trailhead
and use your (very bright) flashlight. You may see the bright
lights the mountain bikers speak of. There are fire tacks on trees
along the trail to take you to the final cache location (approx.
0.2 mile hike uphill along a mountain bike trail). When you see a
double fire tack on a tree shine your light to the right of that
tree and you'll see that your path leaves the defined trail. I also
placed some firetacks on the way out in case you get turned around.
When I placed this cache I tested it with a couple different models
of flashlights in very dark conditions. I found that the LED
flashlights did MUCH better than the regular incandescent
flashlights.
