Ten-ounce jar with a bit of swag. BYOP. Just off a year-round trail east of Tou Velle State Park in Denman. Access from the old TouVelle Road requires a parking permit or a current hunting license.
Please be aware that the Google map for this location is completely off. The cache is SOUTH of the Rogue, between Tou Velle Park and the gated road the maps call Tou Velle Road. It is east of FISHERMAN'S FRIEND. From this cache go west back to the loop trail at the signboard, then north and just a bit east you can log AT THE CONFLUENCE. If you parked in the State Park, on the way back to your car along the Rogue you can collect FISHERMAN'S FRIEND. If you don't have a State Park Sticker there is a day use fee. The visitor tour sheet for Tou Velle park describes this area of the park as "an oak savanna whose trees offer living lessons on three kinds of symbosis: Parasitism, Mutualism, and Commensalism." It goes on to explain how a tiny wasp lays eggs in a leaf vein, causing the brown and white puffballs to form. They protect and nourish the wasps but rob the oak of nutrients. Moss and lichen cover branches but do not adversely affect the tree. Birds forage for insects in the moss and benefit from this commensalism. The blue scrub jays which hide acorns for the winter illustrate mutualism. The birds never find all the nuts they hide, benefiting the trees by enabling them to increase their territory. GPS readings are squirrelly under the trees here. Let your geo-senses guide you. You want to be east and south of the brush around the cache site.
