Compadre Stadium was built in 1985 and seated 5,000 fans, with additional seating available on the grass, down the left-field line. It was to be the home of the Milwaukee Brewers for Spring Training, for the Cactus League. On February 27, 1986, only eight days before the start of spring training, tragedy rocked Compadre Stadium. The Brewers’ new home was ravaged by a gas explosion in the clubhouse as seven coaches and staff members were injured. Despite the episode, the stadium opened on time with more than 6,000 fans in attendance to watch the Brewers play against the Cubs.
In 1998, just 12 years after its opening, the Brewers left Compadre Stadium and the park closed. The land was bought as a development project to convert it into a luxury resort. However, due to a receding economy, those plans have not yet come to fruition. Today the stadium stills stands abandoned…
