Geocache Description:

Canon Fodder is a 2' X 4" PVC Pipe painted to look like a canon barrel with water tight test covers.

Once upon a time, this barrier island was all sand and dunes. The British had their troops encamped on this very spot in 1702 when their forces under Governor Moore of Charles Town, Carolina came down to lay siege to the city of St. Augustine in early November of that year.

The siege lasted almost two months and was finally broken by the arrival of a relief fleet from Havana that trapped the British ships within St. Augustine's harbor and forced the British to burn their ships to prevent their capture by the Spanish.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will not have to walk through the dunes to find this one. The cache is hidden within four steps of a walkable area.
