A fairly easy walk round the side of Clift sound, with great views of nearby islands and the Voe.
This is the last of 5 caches we have placed in the Wester Quarff area.
Park as per the nearby Waterfall cache or continue up the road towards the Voe to N 60 05 811 W 001 16 658
As with most places in Scotland climb over any fences but take care not to walk too close to nearby houses. You should head for about two-thirds of the way down the hill- if you are too close to the sea, you will face a steep climb back to the cache. The terrain can be wet but is generally not too tricky.
The cache is a 12cm "Body Shop" tub, hidden in the wall of a crooie. These structures were used to grow seed vegetables before they were moved as larger plants to the crofts in the valley. The walls kept out hungry sheep!
You will see great views of Burra, Trondra, the West Side and on a good day, Foula. If you look down the Voe, you can see the town of Scalloway.
For even better views, scramble up the hill if you feel up to it. Be warned, it is quite steep so please only do this if you feel comfortable. It is possible to walk south along the top of the hill to continue to enjoy the spectacular views. We thought about placing another cache here but found no suitable hiding places, just peat bog and heather!
