Geocache Description:

A pleasant walk South along the track above the waters edge.

Bluff Beach has been the favourite holiday spot for our family for over 50 years!
Each year after Christmas when the farm’s harvest was completed, the old plywood caravan was gently towed the ten miles to its accustomed place not too far from the changing shed, overlooking the bay below. From there Mum, Dad & the kids would enjoy their annual 3 week holiday, after they had come home each morning to milk the waiting cows & feed the pigs!
Catching tommies from the shore, or netting from the edge of the reef, finding tiny crabs in the rock pools or swimming in the safety of the calm water of the bay, this family & many other locals enjoyed it all.
From the one original shack on the point, this & most of the others have been rebuilt as retirement homes, with a growing number of folk living there permanently, the community now having its own effluent system!
But Bluff Beach is most famous for the davits which were used by some local fishermen to hoist their boats out of the water in times of bad weather. Erected about 1925 they used to accommodate 6 boats but after the 1954 storm only 2 remained! Today a few upright wooden posts & a couple of rusty winches are all that are left to tell the story!
