Geocache Description:

Rock Climbers Hide-a-Way

Cache Description

Caution: This cache is near high ledges, please use extreme caution when approaching the cache area. Children should be closely supervised.

Rock Climbers Hide-a-Way is located on State Game Lands 51 in Fayette County. You can access this cache from two different parking areas. The first is located on SGL 51 at the following coordinates: N39 56.549, W079 31.293. Hiking to the cache from this parking area will involve quite an uphill climb and approximately a five mile hike round trip. If approaching from this parking area you can also find Elk Rock Playground cache as you head towards Rock Climbers Hide-a-Way. You will be following game land road for all but the last few hundred yards where you will turn right at a large rock cairn (N39 56.352, W079 32.856) onto a path with marked blazes.

The second parking area can be accessed from Kingan Hill Road at these coordinates: N39 55.904, W079 32.702. You will be parking at a small pull off with a gate. Please do not block the gate. The hike from this parking area will be approximately 1.5 miles round trip, mostly level. However this entrance is not on game land property. While hunters frequently park at this location, we have not received permission for parking here. Following the road from this parking area you will see a large rock cairn on your left (N39 56.352, W079 32.856). Follow the blazed trail from there.

Once on the blazed trail you will come to a three way split (N39 56.336, W079 32.893). You many choose to take the left trail to explore the rock base, straight to access the top of the ledge or continue on to your right to reach the cache. You will approach the rock ledges as you near the cache. Please use extreme caution around the ledges as there are deep crevices and hazardous drop offs. The cache is not located near the ledge. Enjoy the view! You may be lucky enough to see some rock climbers on the ledges while you are visiting.
