Geocache Description:

Elk Rock Playground

Cache Description

Elk Rock Playground is located on State Game Lands 51 in Fayette County. You can access this cache from two different parking areas. The first is located on SGL 51 at the following coordinates: N39 56.549, W079 31.293. Hiking to the cache from this parking area will involve quite an uphill climb and approximately a three mile hike round trip. You will be following the game land road to a three way intersection. The large rock formations will be on your right. (N39 57.071, W079 32.562) The cache is hidden away from the large rock formations near an area of interesting smaller formations. It’s your typical ammo box in the woods.

The second parking area can be accessed from Kingan Hill Road at these coordinates: N39 55.904, W079 32.702. You will be parking at a small pull off with a gate. Please do not block the gate. The hike from this parking area will be approximately three miles round trip as well, mostly level. However this entrance is not on game land property. While hunters frequently park at this location, we have not received permission for parking here. If approaching from this parking area you can also find the Rock Climbers Hide-a-Way cache as you head towards Elk Rock Playground.

Please be careful at the cache site, there will be rock crevices in the area. Take time to explore the area and the larger rock formations.
