According to the American Indian Year Book 1947, “Indian Geographic Names”, the name for Washington Harbor was “Such-Kwee-ing” meaning quiet water. 100 yards beyond the gate was the location of the village of Such-Kee-ing.
Bugge’s Cannery Now the site of Battelle Northwest Marine Research Labortories. For years, ships of the mosquito fleet stopped here. Passengers who disembarked at Port Williams crossed the bridge over the lagoon to Washington Harbor to access the road to Sequim.
