Geocache Description:


Created in 1944 Smokey Bear is the longest running public service campaign.The cartoon Bear is based upon an actual Bear found alone and charred after a devastating wildfire in New Mexico the young cub climbed a tree to take refuge.the tree burnt,the clime save the Bears life but smokey was hurt and burned.Firefighters found the Bear and turned him over to a rancher .The Bear was flown for veterinary care and as word spread became one of the worlds most recognizable fictional characters.This cache is in beautiful New Lancaster valley a few miles from the State Park.The cache is in memory of Robert "Luther" Paige who volunteered to play Smokey Bear at State Parks.This cache has many nice new Smokey Bear items,and is placed on 2fourfun's first anniversary of Geo-Caching. F.T.F TO JOCKSTER GREAT JOB!!!
