Geocache Description:

This is a multi-stage micro-cache, showing some of the historical features of Hereford.

There are six locations to find. Answer a simple question at each of these and you will learn the location of the final geocache (you will probably want a car to get to this one, though it is walkable).

The route is approximately 1.25 miles (not including the drive to the final cache - about another 1.5 miles), on paved roads, and starts and finishes at a public car park.

Whilst the route is about 1.25 miles, feel free to wander around and investigate the city in more detail!

Answering the six questions will give you six numbers, A-F. Using these, you can do a few sums to work out #, X, Y and %.
Feed these into the locations at the end, and you will get the location of the final cache, and a nearby car park.

The final location provides a very nice view of Hereford, and is a good spot for a picnic!

The listed coordinates are for a public car park, at Hereford Leisure Pool. This is a good place to start, but if the car park's full, there is another car park at N52 03.110, W02 43.108. You will need a pad and a pen!

Whenever the answer to a question is a year, use the last two digits only (so if the answer was 1950, just use the 50).

The first location is N52 03.040, W02 42.764. When you get there, you should be able to find the answer to question A.

A: What animals are on the plaque? If they are dragons, the answer is 5, if they are a lion and a unicorn, the answer is 10 and if they are pegasi (pegasuses?), the answer is 15.

Cross the picturesque Victoria Bridge, on your way to the second location...

The second location is a monument to Nelson's victory at Trafalgar, and can be found at N52 03.138, W02 42.742. The second question is this:

B: What is at the top of the monument? Is it an Urn/Vase, a statue of Nelson or a Cross? If it's an Urn/Vase, the answer is 2, if it's Nelson, the answer is 5 and if it's a cross, the answer is 8.

You are standing in the Castle Green, part of the old Hereford Castle. From here, make your way to the third location...

The third location is at N52 03.289, W02 42.904 (close to the Cathedral). Your third question is this:

C: In which year did this man move to Hereford?

Write down the answer, and move on to the fourth location (stopping off for a cup of tea if you're that way inclined).

The fourth location is at N52 03.380, W02 42.890, in the centre of town. And your question is this:

D: When was this very old museum presented to Hereford?

Suitably replenished, move on to the fifth location...

The fifth location is at N52 03.239, W02 43.030 (near to the Cathedral again). Your question?

E: In which century (two digits please) was this 'Hall' built? It's one of the oldest in Britain...

You may want to pop into the Cathedral or the Mappa Mundi exhibition at this point - I've been told that the Cathedral has an excellent coffee shop! Either way, it's time to move on to the next location...

The sixth location is at N52 03.134, W02 43.115. And your final question is:

F: In whch year was this bridge built?

Keep going down the road until you get back to the car park, and work out the following location.

The final location is at N52 03.7%%, W02 42.1YY. You can park at N52 03.8##, W02 42.0XX.

%% can be worked out as follows. %% = D + E + B + 3 (remember to use the last two digits for the years).
XX can be worked out as follows. XX = D + A + 3
YY can be worked out as follows. YY = (F/9) + C - B + 11
## can be worked out as follows. ## = F - (E x C) - E (work out E multiplied by C, then you want F minus this, minus E).

This is an ideal place to let the dog off the lead, and the children, and enjoy some spectacular views of Hereford and Wales (weather permitting!)
