Geocache Description:

It's sad.

These companies build huge, mega-mart, locations, then abandon them to larger stores or when sales dry up and we are left to deal with the blight on our neighbor hoods. Just look around at some of the empty buildings in our city. There is a former Circuit City at this cache location. You can drive just 1/2 a mile east to see a former Builder's Square that has been empty for probably 10 years now. Take a drive past Woodlawn and Harry for another empty box. Or go to Towne West and find the empty Target just east of the mall.

These empty stores kill the intersection and depress the surrounding real estate. And think about this: they are all located around the outside of the city. We continue to plow under farm land to build Best Buy's. Do we really need to spread out as much?

Here is how it works. Someone says "I am tired of living in Wichita. There is too much traffic, too many stop lights, too many QT's and McDonalds. So lets move to Derby (or Andover, or Maize, or where ever). Then after a while they complain about having to drive to Wichita, the lack of traffic controls and such. So Derby gets a Big Box Lowes, Dillon's Marketplace, and Target, more stoplights, QT's, McDonald's and increased traffic. Time to move to Rose Hill

Don't believe me? While we are expanding Kellogg to make traffic flow, we have installed new stop lights at the Lowe's just east of Greenwich, at 143st East, and a new one just east of Andover Road for the new YMCA and Dillon's. Soon you will exit the freeway at Webb and have 8 stoplights between you and Andover Road.

OK, I'll get of the soap box and give you your cache info. You are looking for a magentic container about the size of a pack of cards. I thought about making all of you crawl amongst the rocks under the bridge, but I didn't want to get the snot beat out of me at the next breakfast. IT is log only.

Thanks for reading and here is some more info on Big Boxes if you are really bored:
(visit link)

You can also type: BIG BOX STORE in a google window and see that other cities are having the same problem.
