Geocache Description:

Betty Russell Community Park, still known to those of us who grew up playing in the train and on the swings as Pembrook Park, offers many activities for children (and adults) of all ages.

Gurnee Park District soccer teams practiced here, at least when I was in grade school, and the sand volleyball court is transformed into an ice skating rink every winter. It also includes tennis courts and the more recent addition of a mini skate park, which is almost always in use during daylight hours, even in the dead of winter.

My favorite part of coming to this park, of course, is seeing my name in one of the bricks on the path :)

Eager as we always were to get playing, we never walked all the way around to the true entrance of the park, but rather cut between two houses and met up with a path that ran along the back. It is here that I felt would be the best place for my first cache. Don't worry, parking is available at N 42° 23.077 W 087° 55.991, and the path will take you right where you need to be.

First to find wins a trophy (you'll see!) and has first pick of some homemade pins. This is the first in a series of four I plan to place, 2 here in Gurnee and 2 where I go to school in Galesburg, IL. Each is color-themed, and this one, as you may have guessed from the title, is blue.

Park is closed from dusk till dawn.

Bring your own pencil.
