Hike to the Netafim Spring in the desert of the Eilat Mountains
This hike takes you down a narrow canyon between the rocks to Netafim spring. If you come early in the morning or in the late afternoon you might see some ibexes or other animals coming to take a drink.
The water is not clean for human consumption so make sure you hike with 3 liters of water each.
Although this hike is listed as a short 1 hour hike, that is only from the decent to the Netafim Wadi. From the parking lot on road 12, allow at least 2 hours, more if hiking with young children.

Descend the wide, 4x4 trail, to the bottom. Continue North till you see the green trail sign.

Be careful, there are signs warning not to stand close to the rock ledge.
The trail will take you down between the rocks. There are some metal rods there to help you shimmy through the rocks.
When you get to the bottom continue along the green trail to the spring. There is small pool there with water (was quite stagnant and dirty when we visited - but that was before the rains.)
Continue along the green trail till you reach the red trail that ascends up out of the wadi. This will take you back to where you began your decent into the wadi.
Then you have to walk back up that very steep 4x4 path. This took us about 40 minutes in the winter - but allow for more time if hiking with small children or hiking in hot weather.
The cache is in a plastic container wrapped in a plastic bag.
Remember - hiking in the desert you must carry 3 liters of water each, wear a hat and sun block and should have the eilat mountains trail map.
