Located out in one of the fields behind the Augusta Civic Center. The cache can be accessed by using one of the UMA trails. Waist high, it should be winter friendly.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
When I was eight years old, I went to the old Colonial Theater in Augusta and saw the movie Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. THAT MOVIE SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! There were no special effects and no monsters per se’. The terror came from the simple notion that every one around you were being taken over by an un-seen force or entity. It is reveled that Alien seeds or “Pods” have landed on earth. If someone falls asleep near a pod, a duplicate of the person is formed from the pod. This duplicate takes over the person. The only way to tell a alien from a human is the alien is totally emotionless.
I guess the original story, written by Jack Finney and published in the Saturday Evening Post in 1954, was supposed to be an allegory of Communism taking over America. I didn’t care about that back in 1956! All I knew was I wasn’t going to sleep ever again or I was going to become one of those bubbling, slime oozing, featureless, naked humanoids, forming out of one of those PODS!
There were three versions made. The second one, was made in 1978 stared Donald Sutherland and the third one, called “Invasion”, was made in 2007, and stared Nicole Kidman. The original 1956 version was in black and white and is my favorite. It was directed By Don Seigel (Dirty Harry) and stared Kevin McCarthy, Dana Winters, King Donovan, and Caroline Jones.
There were three parts of the movie that sticks in my mind. The first being the scene where the Pods are found in the greenhouse, and they destroy them by pitch forking them! The second one was when Kevin McCarthy and Dana Winters are pretending to be aliens, so they can get away. A little dog is hit, or almost hit, by a car. The girl gasps and everyone sees she has emotion. They start to chase them, while an air-raid klaxon blares in the background. While they hide from their pursuers, she falls asleep and becomes one of them! The last one is right near the end, when Kevin McCarthy is on the highway, trying to warn every-one. He jumps on the back of a truck and finds it full of pods heading for the city!
This cache is a tribute to that movie, that scared me so bad. The cache is a match container sticking out of the slime of a PARTIALLY FORMED ALIEN SEED POD!!…..Don’t fall asleep here or you might be taken over! The pod is placed just off one of the UMA trails. It is with-in sight of the civic center. The civic center parking lots are good places for the trucks to pick up all the pods and take them to the cities!……”They’re here! They’re here now! YOU’RE NEXT!”
