Geocache Description:

More than 5 million years ago the rock that we know as Palomar began to rise pushed up by pressure from the San Andreas Fault and the Temecula and Elsinore faults. This created a flood plain east of the mountain that is the headwaters of the San Luis Rey river. There isn't a mountain called Palomar, but it is more a range of mountains.

Geologists describe the mountains as being composed of granite diorite and having two types of fracture systems. Igneous dikes were formed because of the hot mineral-laden water being forced through the cooling rock during the original volcanic eruptions. The Elsinore Fault runs the length of the mountain range in an East-West direction forming a complex fracture zone. Palomar gets more rainfall than the surronding valleys and the water is collected in the valleys and meadows, eventually filtering into the fracture zones. When underground water flows thru the fractures and dikes it produces artesian spring water with exceptionally pure water.

GPS reception is not 100% due the the mountains and tree cover. This cache will last if it is rehidden better than found in the hidy-hole created for it. Be aware that there may be muggles about - usually more so on the weekends. ...Sorry Duncan!
