Geocache Description:

LECTURE - GC CLASS 107

Good morning, class.  We are now introducing a new style of cache listing, the puzzle cache. Puzzle caches can be as simple or as difficult as the cache owner (CO) wishes to make them.  Just realize that adding a puzzle to a cache means fewer people will find it, and the harder the puzzle, the fewer times it will be found.  Puzzles can require advance research, or they can be solved on site.  This one will be solved on site.

Multi-stage caches are caches that require you to go to one place, get new coordinates, and then go to another place. There are can many stages in a multi-cache, or as few as two.

You'll also notice that our puzzle type for this cache is listed as "Mystery". All puzzle caches will be of that type, and the GC icon for that is a question mark.
Since this is an introductory class on geocaching, we will introduce the concepts of puzzles and multi-stages using one easy to solve geocache. The cache container size is also not specified. This means you don't know if you are looking for a micro, ammo box, or something else. You'll have to be very observant on this one. Now, let's go to the lab. No talking, please, and please stay in line.

THE CACHE LISTING

If this were an ordinary cache listing, the title would be  "New Brunswick".

No night caching here, please.

The posted coordinates take you to the entrance gate of the Oktoc Community Center, built in 1927, as the hand wrought iron gate will attest.  This large, white building is the cultural hub of this community. Each fall, the center hosts the Oktoc Country Store, a one-day community festival where visitors can get fresh produce, baked goods, and Brunswick Stew.  If you've never had Brunswick Stew, you've missed out. The stew is served in individual servings to be eaten there, or one gallon jars to take home.  There is a little brown building behind the community center where all the cooking is done.  The men of the community get together on Thursday night, build their fires, get out the gigantic cast iron cook pots, and start making the stew.  It is stirred with boat paddles, and finally served on Saturday.

The cook building was built by the Oktoc Garden Club in a certain year. Find out what year the cook building was built by the Oktoc Garden Club, and label the four digits of the year as ABCD.  The coordinates for the second and final stage of this cache are:

33 1B.DB4
088 45.42B

If you'd like to try some Brunswick Stew at home, there are a lot of different recipes out there.  This one is very traditional, and will give you some idea of what it's like.  Make up a batch, and invite the neighbors over for a feast.

NOW WHAT?

Now that you've completed this cache, find and log the rest of the series, in order.   If you are doing this course in order as recommended, you are now considered an upperclassman.  By now you have developed good study habits, and have focused your attention on finishing your course of study.  A few more caches, and your basic geocaching education will be complete.
