Geocache Description:

This cache is a travel bug inn

Park is open 7 am to Dusk

Alpha and Charlie Companies of the 136th Signal Battalion was located here in Houston located around the corner across from west oaks mall. When I was in the Texas Army National Gaurd we use to have weekend exercises back here in the George Bush Park Pond area (courtesy of the Corp of Engineers) before it even had that name.

As a team leader specialist 4th class (before I made sergeant) my team was placed here we backed the two Humvees side by side in this area with the front bumpers against the road for a quick evac, cranked up the generators then we put up the 15 meter antenna to send a microwave link to another team and which was part of setting up a area network. This was practice for our job which prepared us for real world missions like when members of the 136th and 249th deployed to Bosnia in 1997 to 1998 I was in Mostar. Other missions for 136th followed including Iraq. Our Humvees had a shelter on back (I will attach pictures when I can scan them in) and held all the electronics needed to ensure communications.

The 136th Signal Battalion is no longer active as the Battalion was reorganized and a new communication system is now being used This cache is a .50 ammo can that was given to me by tx_secsy after I found the cache (GCQ5ZA Back to School #4 - Don't forget, School Supplies! which now archived) had been muggled empty and I found that it was not close to the original cache site
