Hike or Bike - Lynde Shores and Lynde Creek Marsh Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Skyecat: I have decided to archive this multi in the Hike or Bike series for a few reasons as it is not visited that often, and there are recent changes to the land use agreement where one of the stages is located. I plan on replacing this cache with something else more in keeping with the changes that have occurred to the area so stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone who visited.

Geocache Description:

Four part multi along the waterfront trail in the area of Lynde Creek Marsh.

The Hike or Bike series is intended to provide a cache where you can get out and hike or bike (or roller blade) and enjoy the beautiful waterfront trail. I plan to add to the series over the next few months and will release two multi caches at a time. The first two caches in this series will head you in a western direction, and future caches will continue this theme. Final cache is a small lock and lock box with room for small TB's and geocoins as well as small items to trade.

Lynde Shores and Lynde Creek Marsh

The coordinates listed are for the first Waypoint. If you are biking, you can follow the waterfront trail route and go right to the first waypoint however if you are driving you will have to park at the parking coordinates and walk in. Another option would be to park closer to the second waypoint, and follow the waterfront trail to the first waypoint, then walk back to the second waypoint and pick up your vehicle on the way. The waterfront trail is clearly marked and paved for this segment.

The first waypoint is located on the grounds of Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Science. The trail is accessible 24/7 however there are a few rules that the public must follow. Ontario Shores is a smoke free facility and asks staff, residents the visitors to refrain from smoking on the property. Also dogs must be on a leash.

In order to find the final cache coordinates, you will need to answer questions from information available at the first three waypoints. Then using the formula you will be able to determine the coordinates for the final cache, also located just off the waterfront trail. You can walk between the first and second waypoint, but you will probably want your “wheels” to travel to the third waypoint and final cache location. This is a nice cache to do on a bike, just be careful as part of the route is along a busy roadway between trailheads of the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail.

- Look inside the “structure” and count the number of letters in the only word in all CAPITAL letters found on one of the benches = A
- This Canadian institution is “friends of the environment”. Count the number of letters in the two words that make up the institutions name. = B

- How many he hectares of land make up the Lynde Shores conservation area? ________ = D

Third Waypoint

Using the following formula to determine the North and West Coordinates for the final cache.

North Coordinates N43 GG.HHH
(A+B) x 2 = GG (Cx9) – 4 =HHH

West Coordinates W 078 II.0JJ
D divided by 4 plus 8 = II (E+F) x 6-1 = JJ
