Geocache Description:

A cache in a spot of intense natural beauty, with an entertaining physical challenge on the way in.

Note: As logged many times, there has been a rockfall right near the cache. It's a big one, but it happened over a year ago and it's the only one I have ever seen - and I have been coming here for 20 years. But there is always an element of danger with cliffs, so if you are concerned, give this one a miss. If you like a little adventure, read on...
This cache marks the location of Peter Duddy's Cave. I have no idea how this cave was named. Maybe someone can tell us. It is a natural beauty spot well worth visiting. There is a physical challenge on the route. FTF to Red Tag. There are two approaches:

Approach 1

Easy and quick. However, approach 2 is my fave, use it if you can. But if you are in a hurry...
  • Head for GC13J7T. Turn Right.

Approach 2

This approach is way more fun and includes cool rock scrambles. NO DOGS in this area. Make sure you have 40 mins free.
  • Park at S 42 59.384, E 147 19.537.
  • Head down the road marked with the wildlife care sign. It's gated and looks private, but it isn't.
  • Watch for the track on your right with the swing gate and the wildlife care warnings.
  • Head down the hill. Check out the concrete bird nesting hides that have been placed here. Sometimes you can see penguins.
  • When you reach the beach, turn right. Head around the foreshore. Lost of fun obstacles will stand in your way but all are eminently surmountable if you don't mind scrambling using hands.

Once you reach GC13J7T either way

First locate GC13J7T and log. Then, head around to the rocks to the right. You will reach a place I call "Booming Cave". It is at S 42 59.653 E 147 19.790. You have to jump it. It is a crack in the rocks over to the entrance to a sea cave. The gap can be comfortably crossed in a big step by an adult, but it is scary as the sea is below you about 2m down, and sometimes the waves run in and out and are very noisy. Booming cave is worth seeing in its own right. Take care with this. My 9 year old did it no problems, but I have also seen adults who found it too hard. I have also seen it crossed with the use of a log. I imagine a portable small stepladder that lays out flat would also work if it were a problem.

After you cross Booming Cave, head for ground zero and enjoy. Recent very large boulders have fallen in this region and changed the landscape very much. Not quite as lovely as it once was unfortunately, but still a very impressive location.

The cache is not quite at ground zero. You have to go inside.
